Microjoys

Microjoys is a coinage by Cyndie Spiegel about taking note of small things that bring joy. There have been many ideas like this, possibly throughout history, but this is the version that has taken off in my milieu.

Here are some of my microjoys, why not?

• Bass to make my booty move

• Grokking a new thing

• Making small pretty things (where pretty can mean actually aesthetically attractive, or hilarious)

• Receiving pretty things (but don’t make me keep them)

• Understanding a very different way of being

• Bringing someone who needed community into a community

• Blowing children’s minds

• Impressing people by doing difficult things

• Finding a mutual benefit with someone

• Enjoying music with someone

• Food that is crispy on the outside and creamy in the middle

  • …or juicy it can be juicy in the middle instead

• Chocolate melting in my mouth, esp cold chocolate

• A good narrative with a formally elegant structure

• Runner’s high

• Going fast

• Mountainy bits of nature

• Foresty bits of nature

• Cool dips in lakes (Putting the last few together, I really should go trail riding more)

• Flirting

• Friendly mockery

• Flow states

• Skin contact

• Eating when hungry

• Banter
